In this article, we’ll show you how to edit the main menu.
1. Go to the Menus settings in the WordPress Back-end
Once you’ve logged-in on the website, from the backend of your website – go to the left-hand menu – click on “Appearance” and then on “Menus”. Here you find the menu settings for all different languages of your website.
2. Edit the Main menu or Top menu
Sometimes a website has a main menu and a top menu (smaller font size menu above the main menu), in this case you have to choose which one you want to edit:
- Select a menu to edit: select the main menu or top menu and click on select.
Below you will see an example of Main menu settings for the English website. On the right side of the screenshot you can see that this website has a Dutch, English, French and German menu.
If you created a new landing page or if you want to add an existing page to the main menu you should go to the left side column, find your page and click on add to menu.
If you can’t find the page in the list or if you want to direct to another link then use Custom links in the left side column. You can add a URL and then click on add to menu.
In the menu overview on the right side of the screenshot you can move the menu items up and down to create the perfect logical menu. In the navigation label you can edit the name which will be visible on you website in the menu. Don’t forget to make a different menu for every language.
If you wish to add a non-clickable menu item to the header, you can click on ‘custom links’. Now you can add a new menu item. You have to fill out a link even though you want it to be non-clickable. Once you clicked on ‘add to menu’, you can remove the link in the menu structure section. Now you will have a menu item that is not clickable.
If you are done with editing then don’t forget to click on “save menu” (right bottom side when you scroll down). Always check your changes live on your website, to see if it looks okay!
