In this article we will explain you how to edit the page's title (that's used for SEO purposed as well), and change the URL of a page.

1. Edit the Page Title

  • Navigate to Pages
  • Change the page title by typing a new title in the field highlighted below:
    Image Placeholder
  • Press Update on the right side, to save your changes.

2. Change the Page URL

Drawback to keep in mind before updating the URL

  1. If you inserted this URL manually in other pages, the old link will not be working/found anymore. Visitors that click on that link will be redirected to the homepage.
  2. If the page has been linked outside your own website, in other websites or Google Ads, for example, the link will not work anymore as well. Do not forget to update the link in every place you have inserted it manually!

Always let us know when you change a page's URL so we can set up any needed redirects.

  1. Navigate to the Pages overview in the back end
  2. Scroll down to the specific page you wish to edit the URL of
  3. Click on Quick Edit, which appears below the page title on hover
  4. Update the slug- field to the desired URL slug. The URL slug is the part that appears in the URL behind the slash. E.g. https://www.orangehotelmarketing.com/contact
  5. Press Update to save your changes
  6. If you wish to change the URL of the translations of this page, you need to do so manually per language. In order to do so, navigate to that specific language via the flag-icon on the top and click on the language you want to update.

In some cases it might be that a field called URL / slug is added to the fields in WPML. Then you will be able to update the URL via there as well. If not, follow the next steps.

  7. A pop up will appear, warning you you are changing languages. Usually you are never supposed to make changes in other languages than your website's default language. Only when you wish to update a URL slug or page title after it has been created, you should navigate through you back end via this way. Click on 'Proceed to the non-default language' below the button.

  8. In the pages overview, again navigate to the specific page and press Quick Edit to update the translation's URL as well.
  9. Again press Update, and you have now updated the URL.
  10. Do the same for the other languages, and you are all set!
