In this article, we explain the use of several types of links, such as anchor-, internal-, external- and media/PDF links. These links can be found behind buttons, text links, or even images. Besides that, you could link internally to a page, to an external website, or make the link trigger an action.


1.Textual Links

  1. Navigate to the text field in which you want to create a link. Click on it so the menu on the left side opens:

  2. Select the part of text / type the text you want to use as linkt ‘text / label’ > click on the chain-icon to insert/edit a link.

  3. You can then insert the website the link should refer to (when it is an external website). If you want to link to a page within your website, leave this field blank.
  4. Press the wheel-icon behind the blue enter-icon.
    • If you are linking to an external website: Select the box ‘Open link in a new tab’.
    • If you want to create an ‘internal link’: You can select the specific page, that will be shown in the list:
  5. Press ‘Add Link’ to create the link and save it.

2. Image Link

It is possible to add a link behind an image. For image links, as well as buttons for example, you have quite some options.

  1. Just right-click on the image and press ‘Edit’ or press the pencil-icon, so the menu on the left appears.
  2. At the bottom of the menu, you see ‘Link’. Choose ‘Custom URL’ in this option.
  3. Linking to an external website: Fill in the URL you want the image to link to, press the wheel-icon behind the field and check the box ‘Open in new window’.
  4. Linking internally (within the website): You have quite some options to link internally within your website. Read on about this, in the next chapter of this article.


3. Dynamic Links – Trigger Actions & Internal Links

Dynamic links can be added to for example images and buttons. If you are able to add a dynamic link, the word ‘Dynamic’ will be displayed just above the bar where you usually would fill in the URL. If you press it, this menu will open:


3.1 Internal Link

This option is used to link to pages within your website.

  1. Press ‘Dynamic‘ behind the Link-field > Site > Internal URL.
  2. Then click on ‘Internal URL’ in the field > Select ‘Content‘
  3. Under ‘Search & Select’, manually type some letters of the page’s name you want to link to, and select it.
  4. It now links to this specific page. The benefit of using internal links (instead of just pasting the URL of the page) is that when you would change the URL of a page within your website in the future – for example, your Location-page – this internal link would still send the visitor to the Location-page.


3.2 Trigger a Pop-Up (with a Link)

  1. Press ‘Dynamic‘ behind the Link-field > Action > Popup.
  2. Then click on ‘Popup’ in the field > Action: ‘Open Popup‘
  3. Under ‘Popup’, press ‘All’ and manually type some letters of the popup’s name you want to link to, and select it.
  4. It now triggers the popup when someone presses this link.


4. Link to Media Files

  1. Navigate to Media > Library and upload the file or image you want to create a link to.
  2. Once you have uploaded your file/image > Click on it in the library.
  3. If you look on the right side of the image, you will see ‘Copy Link’. Select the link in this field and copy it.
  4. If you do not see this window, but a menu on the right side opens > Click on  ‘More Details‘ > Scroll down and you will see the link there.
  5. Then open the page in Elementor, in which you want to edit/paste the link to this media/file.
  6. Insert the URL of the image, like you would when linking to an external website.
