Whenever changes are made in the CMS to certain elements on your website, it might be that you are unable to see those on your live website. A common reason is that your browser is displaying an older (and 'cached') version of your website. To see the latest version, you would need to clear your browser cache.

Below you’ll read more on how to do this, either via the settings of your web browser or via a Google Chrome extension.

2. Google Chrome Extension – ‘Clear Cache’

If you have to clear your cache often, especially when we are in the middle of a website project and update your ‘website-to-be’ often, we recommend adding the Clear Cache extension to your Google Chrome web browser.

  1. Open Google Chrome on your computer
  2. Go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/
  3. Type in ‘clear cache’ in the bar on the left side and press Enter. Then click on the item on the right with the name ‘Clear Cache’, looking like the one below in the screenshot
  4. Click on ‘Add to Chrome’

  5. In the pop-up message that appears, click on ‘Add extension’
  6. A new tab opens, in which you can change the settings for the extension.
    • Reload > Make sure to select the box ‘Automatically reload active tab after clearing data’
    • Data to Remove > Make sure to select the box ‘Cache’
  7. Scroll down to Time Period and select the box ‘Everything’
  8. You can now close the tab.
  9. Depending on whether you already have other extensions in your Chrome web browser, the extension will show up in your upper right corner:

  10. If you cannot see the ‘recycle-icon’ yet, press the puzzle icon in the upper right bar. Then, click on the pin next to ‘Clear Cache’ in the list of Extensions, so it becomes blue. Now you’ve pinned the extension, and it will show up in your bar, like in the screenshot above.

  11. Now, whenever you want to clear your cache, you just press the recycle icon of the extension, and it will automatically reload your tab and clear your cache! Remember, when you are viewing your website which is still in development, please clear your cache every time when viewing the website to see the latest and most optimal version.
